How to peking it.

Peking duck, Peking duck, Peking duck...

@ Beijing Beijing 700, 3803 Calgary Trail

I always loved peking duck as a kid. It was always a treat to have it and still is. I called two days in advance to order one and it was so worth it! A peking duck is a national Chinese dish that dates back from the imperial era. It's a set of three dishes made with the same duck

First they... BBQ the duck, then someone comes to cut the skin off the duck...

Crispy duck skin...
And it is served with a chinese pancake, spring onions, cucumber and hoisin sauce

Then they make a soup with the duck bones.. They include bok choy and tofu into the soup.
Like many bone broth soups the soup comes out creamy looking... (I love this soup!)
The full picture...

Then the duck meat is used to make a vege dish or a carb dish, you can get fried rice with duck, or noodles with duck.. but we choose a duck and beans sprout dish...

And that's it for the duck... However, We ordered more food as well. The menu at Beijing Beijing has really improved and it's hard to just choose a couple dishes...

We had wor wonton soup...
The wrap around the wonton tasted very fresh!!
Fried oysters with a salt dip... (I could have done without this dish.. it was bland and very oily)

My favorite dish from beijing beijing is the strawberry ribs....

And who did I share this with?
My adventurous Italian couple =)
Mikey...

My wife and I... This was truly a good company and good eats situation! I loved it!! =) Go try the duck sometime!

Pho cravings continued...

Hoang Long Noodle House
8882 170 Street Northwest (there are a lot of other Hoang Long in Edmonton)

There is a huge bamboo fortress in Edmonton and that's the Hoang Long restaurant on the west side of Edmonton.
Once you step in you notice, the blinds are bamboo, the menus are bamboo the decor is bamboo and so on. You feel like you're in a bamboo castle!!
How did I stumble upon this place? I had a crazy craving for Pho one day. We were in the west end to watch the fight between GSP and Dan Hardy and there are not a whole lot of pho places in the west end I think...
I know of Pho Hoa and Hoang Long in West Edmonton mall and this place..

This is what they have..

The regular pho with assorted beef
Spicy Thai noodle soup- Sort of coconut like, with hot sauce and peanuts.. This wasn't bad...
Fresh mango with soda
Spring Rolls
Salad rolls
The pho was pretty basic there... however my noodles were a bit clumpy and broken... signs that they were over cooked prior to putting them into the broth...
I wish I tried more of their Thai food as they had a very extensive menu with Thai fare...

I think I need to go back... Who's with me?!
