Vancouver Day 8-Last Day

Last day of my trip to BC....

This was the caramel popcorn that I bought from Port Alberni....

Before leaving vancouver I really wanted some good sashimi, but an assortment of sashimi not just your run of the mill salmon and tuna sashimi. I must have went into 5 sushi joints and walked out because I wanted something special. I was about to meet Jay for lunch later but I had to have my sashimi fix.

Then I discovered this place.... They are called Sushi Bento on Robson.
The outside of this place looked typical for a sushi take out place, it is small and not interesting to look at.. But what caught my eye was that they were doing pork meat skewers... so it looked like they had something different and then when I opened the menu I fell in love with this roll...

Behold! Taro action...

Toro, Avocado, Roe and CREAM CHEESE. I love cream cheese in rolls. Yes I am a fat kid.
Close up....
Then to actual lunch...

Arts institute- Culinary Arts
http://culinary.artschoolvancouver.com

Candy goes to this school =) This is an alligator shaped bread... cute hey?

Freshly baked clover rolls and sour dough with a chive butter
Gourmet burger with pancetta and provolone
My gamay wine

Soon after lunch because I was trying to get as many meals in as possible..

We went to The Fish House in Stanley Park
http://www.fishhousestanleypark.com/

This is one of my favorite caesars... It's plain to see because they put two pieces of succulent shrimp on the rim... this went down quick.
This is the lobster oil and balsamic vinegar mix for dipping the bread. This is something that I totally regret not buying a bottle of. They no longer have the factory to make this oil.. the technique is that they take the lobster shell and boil it in oil for a long time... Until the oil turns orange! This oil is delicious.

We got an oyster sampler as well..
First up..
Beach oyster- these can be found around B.C.
Chef's creek oyster- found on vancouver island
Summer Ice oyster- found on vancouver island
These are noodle wrapped prawns with ebi mayo and sansho pepper
Corn and clam chowder. Put some of the oil in here... yum.
Sri Lankan seafood curry
This was the herb and bread crusted tilapia with seasonal veges.
I wasn't crazy about both dishes but their regular non dine out menu looks good though.

We finished with a chocolate coke cake.

The beautiful walnut crust...
Creme Brulee....And that was it!
I hope you enjoyed looking at these pictures as much as I did!

Victoria/Vancouver Day 7

My last day in Victoria...

Floyds Diner- 2915 Douglas Street

How did we find this place? Circle around downtown and look for a line that forms in front of a restaurant.. Even when it's raining...

The staff at Floyd's diner are exceptional! They were so funky and nice, the decor was super funky as well.

My breakfast caesar.. don't judge I was on holiday...

The coolest looking lime ever. Looks like it's part lemon woahhh!
This is my eggs benedict with a special hollandaise sauce and slices of potato and bacon.
The Potato hash is so good!
I failed you guys though, I don't really remember what was in the eggs benny... this was Raju's dish...
This was my omelette, inside it had sundried tomatoes, spinach... again not completely sure what was in it >.< but it was delicious. I am sure it had some meat in it. Because I normally never order anything vegetarian haha
When I went back to Vancouver this was what was waiting for me =) A blackberry mousse cake made by Candy =) Her gelatin and blackberry ingredients are not what you usually see since she goes to the Culinary Arts school... hehe. Yes, be jealous.

I also visited my Uncle and Auntie in Richmond and they took me here!!

Shanghai River

These are the dumplings that are steamed with soup inside. This was amazing! The skin of the dumpling is so thin so becareful! It might burst!! I loved how in this restaurant you can see the dumpling ladies working in the kitchen..
Peking duck....
Peking duck lettuce rolls....
The filling set in the lettuce...
Crispy shrimp in a mayo sauce, sort of like the peach shrimp but way better. This is paired with candied walnuts. YUMMM
I even got to take some dumplings home for Candy.. I won't lie I had a couple even when I was stuffed. The dumplings from this place are amazing!!!
*drool*

Victoria Day 6

Victoria Day 6!

Pig BBQ Joint

http://pigbbqjoint.com/

Look at the sign! How can I not stop here?
This is my old fashioned ice tea....
My BBQ brisket sandwich. I recommend putting all the sauces that they have into the sandwich. The mustard and BBQ sauce are great in this sandwich! You can taste that the meat has been smoked for a while. It was great =)
When there is BBQ I have to have coleslaw, this was okay, I like it when my coleslaw is swimming in dressing.. This was lightly tossed.
After a day of moving we decided to order in! This is pizza from Ali Baba pizza http://www.alibabapizza.com/

This is the Barcelona- Chorizo, Feta, Onions, Spinach and Garlic... Yum
Ali Baba Special- Pepperoni, Mushroom, Green peppers, Onions, Olives, Italian Sausage and Pineapple... Yum
This is gooood pizza.

Victoria Day 5

Victoria Day 5

Pagliaccis http://www.pagliaccis.ca/

Thanks to my Urban Spoon I found this place... We were craving some Italian food but didn't want to settle for anything mediocre so after a lot of walking we found this place =) When you get into Pagliaccis immediately you notice the history of this place and it's popularity. Around the restaurant there are countless pictures of celebrities. Pagliaccis was so packed! Our tables were so close and the aromas of fresh pasta and the sauces were everywhere. *sigh* Heaven.

First things first, this was my caesar =0

My starter....This was the house salad with a creamy dill dressing...
What I love about this place is that the daily specials are not weekly specials, they are daily specials because the menu is dated on the top. There are some pastas that are celebrity inspired, the day we were there there was the Edward Norton... But we didn't order that.
I'm sure this is the lasagna? I don't remember what exactly was in it. But it was good.
I had the my little chickadee meal. It's different everyday. If I remember correctly it was chicken breast over top mixed fettuccine with a creamy mushroom sauce. This was so good. Simple and delicious!

My Dinner...

Raymond's - 815 Cloverdale Ave, #212

For some reason when I arrived in Victoria, Raju had mad cravings for good Chinese food, I didn't really want to eat Chinese food since it is so amazing in Richmond. Not to mention how shady the Chinese food place looked in Port Alberni... Good thing Raju's Chinese roommate knew where the good food was =) This place was authentic and so good!!

Here is my brothy soup.. I love chinese soups that are clear and sweet.

Chili stir fry shrimp and rice cakes (I am not sure if that is exactly what you call it) but this dish has a kick and is sweet at the same time. I love the use of peanuts in this dish!
Fish cooked in spiced oil. This fish is packed with flavor and spicy!
Asparagus with black fungus. This will probably sound gross to most, but the fungus is chewy and crisp. I don't even know how to describe it. It's good! Trust me!
This was my favorite. This is fatty beef stir fried in a hot chili oil. Yummmm. The meat is so tender...
Some BC wines, I loved the Painted Turtle brand!! So great with some cured meats!
